Silk Road Tour Guide, Uzbekistan
Why Uzbekistan
For two thousand years caravans crossed these deserts carrying silk, paper, ideas. Today the cities they fed still stand, and most of the great monuments are within a day of each other by train.
The classic route (10–12 days)
Tashkent → Samarkand → Bukhara → Khiva. Fly into Tashkent, take the Afrosiyob train south, finish with a flight back from Urgench.
How long do you need?
- 5 days: Samarkand + Bukhara highlights
- 10 days: the full classic loop
- 14+ days: add the Aral Sea or the Fergana Valley
Best season
April–May or September–October. See our full guide on when to visit.
