Where to stay
Simple city hotels in Namangan and a few guesthouses in the Kosonsoy and Chust districts.
Food
Valley bread, dried fruit and honey, and Chust knives to take home rather than eat. Vegetarian eating is easy in season thanks to garden vegetables.
How to get there
About 5-6 hours by road from Tashkent, or a valley train. Namangan airport has domestic flights and some seasonal regional services.

Transport
Shared taxis to Fergana, Andijan and Tashkent depart from the main stand. Reaching the foothills requires a hired car.
Practical information
Little English is spoken and few hotels take international cards, so carry som. Roads north of the city are narrow and best driven in daylight.

Safe. In the foothills there is no mobile coverage in places, so tell someone your route.
