The eastern gateway of the Fergana Valley and the birthplace of Babur, founder of the Mughal Empire.

Why visit

Andijan is the birthplace of Babur, founder of the Mughal empire, and the valley's busiest trading city. Few foreign visitors stop here, which is exactly why its bazaars and tea houses feel unrehearsed.

Tour Highlights

  • Babur Memorial Park
  • Jome Mosque & Madrasah
  • Andijan Bazaar
  • Bogishamol garden
  • Local pilav traditions

What you can do

Visit the Babur memorial park and literary museum, walk the Jome madrasah complex, and spend a morning in the central bazaar, one of the largest in the country.

Where to stay

A handful of business hotels in the city centre; most travellers visit as a day trip from Fergana.

Food

Andijan is known for its own plov style and for dense valley bread. Vegetarian options exist but are limited outside the bazaar; vegan meals need to be arranged.

How to get there

About 6-7 hours by road from Tashkent over the Kamchik pass, or 1-2 hours from Fergana city. Andijan has a railway station on the valley line.

When to visit

April to June and September to October, matching the rest of the Fergana Valley.

Transport

Shared taxis from Fergana and Namangan run all day. City transport is by minibus and taxi.

Practical information

English is rarely spoken; a guide or translation app helps. Dress conservatively, especially at religious sites.

Safety

Safe for visitors. Avoid photographing government or security buildings, as in the rest of the country.
